azzo,I found that scouring the wreckers,a few early to mid 70,s vehicles yield under dash units.[Cortinas, Falcons etc]I grabbed two under dash units and am holding one to chuck into my current Chev project, and the other to fit later to my Mercury which currently has a bulky unit in the passenger side between the side kick panel and the firewall hooked into a Datsun 180b fan/heater unit ,I think the early Mustangs used a similar arrangement. The units I have came from self serve wreckers and cost me $35 ea,.....................Frank.

I had such a unit fitted (myself!) to my old XB. It was a "Mark IV" and had the advantage of variable temperature as well as variable fan speed. That thing would make ice on the outlet vents! And , another advantage: I didn't need to lower the XB. The air cond did that for me...(It, and it's compressor, was heavy!).

Azzo 500, was looking for air/heat/demist for my 54 Plymouth checked out Vintage Air very expensive would have cost approx $2,700. Very smartly gave that option the flick.

Did the same as Frank, yesterday I bought an aftermarket underdash model air con only from a wrecking yard and paid $40.00.
I have grafted demist ducts from a Valiant. Will hunt around for a small heater probably ex Jap car.

The only thing to watch out for is compressors the older style ones are bulky and don't take todays refrigerant. After repeatedly having to have an older style compressor re oiled and the refrigerant re gassed it's not a cheap option

Better option would be to buy "brand new" a Sanden compressor costs approx $460.00

Fit all components where you want them then get a reputable air con fitter to plumb in all hoses and gas the system.
