Sweet!! Good to see somethin' different I've worked on a few 13Bs when I did some work experience with Bullet Supercars 5 years ago and ever since I don't mind them at all (They were building a single rotor version to put in a jet ski, 140hp) they also had a 20B and it was a physically big motor they were going to have trouble fitting the steering around the turbo's & piping.
So what frontend, steering, & most important what color are you going with?

Could this be the start of a whole new modified car culture... the Rice Rod??

Should be an interesting ride and definitely make a few heads spin. I've never heard a 20B run, but apparently they quite as "buzzy" as the twin rotor engines.

I assume you're going to toss the twin turbo setup and go with a big single then. Why do people do that? Are they just too hard to setup or is it simply a horsepower thing?

Looks like it will be a neat ride when done.

cheers

its got a hk front end, with a sortened commonhore rack, with torana steering arms and CRS drop spindles

the stock turbos are all right with an increase of boost you can eaisly get 400hp puta them but, they give me no room for the steering plus a big single turbo will give me plenty of power about 700hp with ease

as for the sound they are more like a V12 than a 13b with a nice rumble to them down low, to a higher pich at the top end

as for the color ducati yellow

i ended up going for this setup because i thought its what hot rodding needed, im sick of every hot rod haveing to have a 350 chev with a turbo 350/400 and a 9'

cheers

Hey Shane,
That's real cool mate
Should be an easy fit between the rails and will go like stink.
The lo rumble will be a welcome change from the usual rotary bark.
Years ago there use to be an A roadster with a 13b. Haven't seen hide nor hare or it for years. Probably got a 350 in it these days

Last week I was lookin at a front clip from a WRX that a mate bought for just $1800. It came with everthing including electrics, front end and dash. The distance b/w the half shafts and the front of the engine was only about 400mm. I reckon it would be ideal for a lo cost mid engined rod.

Like your "think outside the same old square" spirit!!

Like your taste in colour too!!
Be warned tho, driving an open car painted bright yella does have it's own hazards.

Nice to see something so different.

Is it a steel or glass Chev ? If glass where did it come from ?

A car that can go to a Rod show as well as an Auto Salon

Good luck with it.

I'll give you a lot of credit for being different....be prepared for a bit of flack when some rodders find out you put a rotary in it..There are some guys that think its a God given right for a Chev to go into a Ford but not the other way around let alone a rotary in a Chev. .......I personally wouldn't do it cause I don't suffer fools easily and any negative comment would be a cue for a blue...It will attract A LOT of interest when you go on runs.
I'm impressed with the specs on the thing...I'm pleased that it doesn't sound like its cousins the 18B...they sound like a fart in a bath tub.

You have big kahoonies my boy..I take my hat off to ya

A rotary in a rod? Hmmmmmmm, dunno what to think about that, I really hate rotaries. Something I personally wouldnt do, but I commend you for being different. As long it doesn't sound like "wank-wank" then it should be ok I guess.

Good to see something a bit different. Keep us all informed of your progress. There are sure to be a few similar motors getting used soon that run on ULP and go like stink. I have now decided to go RB30 Nissan (VL Commodore) and 5 speed in my 29 Chev Roadster. Now just how good would one of these 20B's be in an Anglia?

I think the negativity that once used to be quite prominent is all but gone. People like Snooze would spin in their graves (if they were dead) at the thought of a non-V8 powered rod, but even these guys appreciate the effort and the ingenuity that is required to do something that has not been done before. The main reason that the status-quo is so popular is that certain combinations have been tried and tested and time has proven that they work just fine. Doing something different means testing the water all over again, but I predict that these power supplies will become more and more popular. Just look at the plethora of Tojo quad cam V8 engines and todays technology creeping in to the engine bays of old rods.
Well done Shane, you're on the right track and if you encounter any of the dinosaurs along the way, just smile and hand them a beer - maybe a Red Back, with a twist of lemon!

Nah mate. Being from the home of Redback beer and having drunk the odd pint (or 6) from time to time, I can state with a most definite authority that it is indeed lemon that goes with Redback.

Either way it's gay... not that there's anything wrong with that!

Brootal's rightRedBack is served with a slice of lemon...gay? Nah, but it's over priced & maybe over rated, but then it's a boutique beer.
Still at least it's "WHEAT" beer, made here but no longer owned here.

Spooling - hats off to you mate & bloody go for it I say. As for critics stuff 'em! No one ever erected a statue to a critic. You rod, your right, your fun, go for it!!!

Turbo-ed? Great!
Ducati Yellow? Getting even better haha!
I wanna do the turbo-ed SBC thing, built it on paper, got a bit of a surprise at the power numbers I got after punching in conservative numbers into an online turbo calculator.
Not sure 650+hp is required.
My neck will get a snapping & put me at the chiroprator.

Might go with plan 463(b)
Just as well the motor isn't here on my workshop floor at the moment although making the intake & piping is something I'd enjoy doing...hmmm
Nudder beer tonight & move onto plan upgrade 464
I'm thinking I shoulda got a heap of those BB Buicks like Jay uses & put injection ala Choco/Hooter style. Now that would be a pretty nice little setup!

Keep a tooling spooling.
Look forward to seeing your rod on the road mate.
Rice Rods? Haha another rod term to remember haha
There used to be Econo-rods
