Saw a link on the WA Cruizin site. Got to get up early to beat those guys.

I figured I would start a new post as the old one regarding this got a little off topic.

Anyway, here's the link...

NATIONAL GUIDELINES FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND MODIFICATION OF STREET RODS IN AUSTRALIA

Yeah, I'm just saving all of the different sections as we speak. Looks like a pretty easy to read document without too mouch bureaucratic babble, but I have only read the intro and the first couple of sections.

Some interesting reading for me today instead of the boring stuff I'm meant to be doing.

I've had the DOTARS site bookmarked for months, I check it every day using their search engine, and the bloody sandgropers beat me to the punch! To make matters worse, the most famous ex-patriot sandgroper in rodding history informs the HRI forum of the document posting after I have expended thousands of hours shooting my gob off about the new guidelines on these very pages!
Ah well, at least we all have the official document now. Thanks for letting us know, Boris, now go to sleep!

Thanx for the link "scoop" or should I say "scoupe" (now there's a good login name for somebody)

Had a quick look thu and it seems like a pretty good document that's been written with common sense in mind.
There seems to be plenty of good info and advice too.

Tho it's a pity that for all intents and purposes it's useless to us here in NSW

Nothing happened that's what.

If you have a repro or custom made chassis you can either go on full rego as an ICV or Club rego thru the SRC.
The SRC have a new set of guidelines for club rego which I believe are similar to the national guidelines, however we haven't seen them yet coz they haven't been ratified by the RTA.
Cars on original chassis come under the code for modified light vehicles and are classed as either modified or rebodied originals. To my knowledge there's no mention of the national guidelines under that code.

There is a meeting to be held soon between club delegates the ASRF and the SRC to try and sort out how we can get some or all of the national guidelines accepted by the NSW RTA.
From what we've been told at the ASRF meetings the RTA are dead against implementation of these guidelines so I won't be holding my breath.

I've also heard that Tas will only be using the guidelines for club rego. Is there any truth in that?

Just unfortunate they have perpetuated the misunderstanding of the way a Jaguar rear suspension works.

In NSW, the RTA have endorsed the national guidelines but are excersising their opt-out options regarding the definitions. However, when it comes to interpretation, the onus is on the "inspectors" to ensure a car that is presented has been built in accordance with the guidelines. In some states, the "inspectors" will be members of the TAC. In NSW, this is the job of the engineer. In the ACT, the Tech Standards (RTA) have dropped the TAC after 30 years of association, and inspections are now carried out by engineers. Hopefully, the TAC will eventually get some favour with Tech Standards, because they are still willing to negotiate on the behalf of rodders. In NSW, however, the RTA are maintaining the status quo, as engineer's certificates have always been required for rego. If the RTA says to the inspectors that it's OK to use the National Guidelines, there will be hope. So even if they opt out of certain sections, we will still benefit from the guidelines in NSW. I'll certainly be testing this out on my Plymouth, as I really don't need a demister!
