I have been offered a bare T5 from a 6 cylinder Commodore, for $350. I am told the input shaft has to be replaced with a V8 shaft, but then which bellhousing will do the job?

I have also seen a complete 5 speed out of a low mileage VS for $800, and it looks nothing like the T5 - much shorter and deeper, and takes one of those 3 bolt rubber damper doofers where the front uni would normally go. It has bellhousing, tailshaft flywheel, clutch & p\plate, but I am uncertain as to whether it will bolt up.

Any ideas, suggestions or links? I would be grateful for any tips.

A while ago I was chatting with some mates on this topic and in the end we agreed that unless you drive sedately the box will not hold up. Now I am no expert here but this not the first time I've heard about doing it and the same thing came up dont do it.

your choice.

Gerday: You wouldn't still have the gearbox and want to part with it would you??

I didn't buy it, and last saw it a swap meet. I kept the bloke's card for a while then chucked it out. Sorry.

The short stubby gearbox is called a GETRAG and is a very strong box.
The donut dampers arent the strongest items around however they can be modified to fit a masserati donut that makes them alot stronger.

The 4L60E donut yoke can be replaced with a standard uni yoke from a T350 I beleive.

I would assume the manuals are the same.

cheers
