Now I don't know if Ford have a problem with consistency of build, but it sure appears that way since every Falcon I've driven lately seems to be nothing like the previous one. Commodores on the other hand are pretty consistent, in that they all have the same flaws and they all drive pretty much the same, and the traction control sucks.

Back in 1997, when I was a manager at British Aerospace in DSTO, I bought a new Ford Futura on a novated lease from the Ford dealership in the Barossa Valley. I ordered an EL Futura, but I wanted a V8. This was unusual, because most people ordered the XR8 if they wanted a V8, but I didn't like the XR8 wanker's kit and I wanted the cruise control and other stuff. So I had to wait a couple of months. The wait was worth it. I had test driven the XR8, but my EL was so much better. To this day, it has never given me any grief and I rarely lift the bonnet. It has done a lot of work towing cars around Australia, the missus has now claimed it and it gets driven to death. It's still very comfy, needs new struts and shocks now after clocking up 180,000 ks, but it has been the best car I've ever had. My son in law just bought a low mileage VS Commodore, and it is no way as comfortable and it handles no better or worse. I think I got a good car because it was a "one off" and maybe they pulled it out of the line to put the 5L in and just gave it that much more attention.
Dunno.

And the morons that rent cars......... Again, my point exactly, which is why you can evaluate how they withstand a bit of a thrashing.

I understand your point, however with no knowledge of exactly how the car has been treated such an evaluation is not worth anything. To properly evaluate a car one needs to know exactly how the car has been treated since the moment it left the factory. It's not a fair comparison when one takes a high mileage renter and compares it to a showroom fresh competitor. Thus dependent on what we are doing or trying to learn, if we rent or just go out and buy a couple of brand spankers.

Yeah, Josh is one of the very few Newspaper 'Muttering Scribblers' who actually knows a bit about cars. he usually does his homework which is reflected in this story of which there's little I disagree with. The VN Lexcen was indeed the absolute worst car ever to wear a Toyota badge. In fact my very first experience with a production model was a trip planned from Melbourne to Bendigo, Maryborough, Ballarat and back home in the Calais spec model. It was not a pleasant drive even in the dry, then when we hit rain about forty kliks from Maryborough, the piss poor ride and handling became simply diabolical. That thing is the only car I've ever actually pulled up and refused to drive, even the Morris Marina handled better in the wet. Today when I see a VN with P plates, I shudder, then drive in the opposite direction.

The Toyota T18 was from the same era and school of thought as was the Datto 120Y, a solid drivetrain stuffed up by stupid styling and lously packaging.

Back to the subject at hand, got a job yet Boris?

Anyway, heres some light humor that I think may be appropriate.

Boris started the day early having set his alarm clock ( MADE IN JAPAN ) for 6 a.m. While his coffeepot ( MADE IN CHINA ) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor ( MADE IN HONG KONG ). He put on a dress shirt ( MADE IN SRI LANKA ), designer jeans ( MADE IN SINGAPORE ) and tennis shoes ( MADE IN KOREA ). After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet ( MADE IN INDIA ) he sat down with his calculator ( MADE IN MEXICO ) to see how much he could spend today. After setting his watch ( MADE IN TAIWAN ) to the radio ( MADE IN INDIA ) he got in his car ( MADE IN GERMANY ) and continued his search for a good paying AUSTRALIAN JOB . At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day, Boris decided to relax for a while. He put on his sandals ( MADE IN BRAZIL ) poured himself a glass of wine ( MADE IN FRANCE ) and turned on his TV ( MADE IN INDONESIA ), and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in ..... AUSTRALIA !

Ok, so I cut and pasted it from an email this morning, I thought it was appropriate..........
Does that mean we will have to think up a new nickname for him? (This could be fun).

Didn't get up until 6:45. The alarm clock though is probably Taiwanese.

Don't drink coffee in the morning. Fruit juice for me.

Nope, always use a blade.

T-shirt I bought at the Geelong Nats.

designer jeans ( MADE IN SINGAPORE )

501s for me buddy. 33 in waist and 34 leg. Let me know if you find any going cheap. What's your waist size Mr C?

and tennis shoes ( MADE IN KOREA ).

Actuall, just bought a new set of Vans skate shoes. Fabrique en China though.

Nope, Weet Bix for me with cold milk (and a dash of sugar).

Nope, that's what Sue's for and she's most definitely MADE IN AUSTRALIA!

Only wear a watch when I'm in the office (very rarely these days)

What Carps said, although it's most definitely Sue's car. (Saab convertible, the girliest of all cars, pretty though)

One of the few true statements. Well done Mr C.

Quote:

Most definitely NOT. Haven't owned a pair of sandals since Grade 3 and didn't like them then either!!!

Quote:

French wine is shit. Aussie for us, preferably Margaret River. Gotta be a little patriotic to our home state.

Dunno, it's a Mitsubishi. Probably made in Adelaide!!! Oops... bad taste.

Nah, not really. Not many people want to employ a computer guy that just wants to stuff around with car shit all day and waste his time on the Internet.

Or do they???....

Thank You and Good Night!

Funny thing how I was going to ignore this post since it's such a piss poor attempt at humour. But then I sort of figured there's a pretty good load of ignorance showing, and you know how I am with that. So,

Champagne is produced from Champagne grapes grown only in the Champagne region of France which is but a very small portion of the French wine making areas.

In fact I believe France is still the worlds number one wine producing nation.

And for what it's worth, guess what? Champage IS wine you moron!
