When I bought my current house about 6 or so years ago the previous owner was restoring a 1962 Dodge Dart ( looks like an overgrown S series Valiant), paint done but car not assembled, he showed me the blueprinted hemi and trans sitting on a pallet at the front and all the goodies, interior etc. to go with it all in boxes around the garage, the car was one of six imported into Australia by Reg Ansett for his top execs. I asked him what he was doing with the car as he was going to Qld. He said he was going to sell it. How much $6000, as I was scraping together my last cent to buy the house, and I mean my last cent, no way could I afford it, so I told him if he wanted to drop the price a bit maybe me could come to some arrangement, he wouldn't have to pack anything just leave the shed as it was.
We had a long settlement date on the house (six months). Two weeks before settlement I went to see the house, hoping that the car may still be available, he said he had a lot of trouble getting rid of it but in the end settled for $1500 and it took three weeks to clear out the garage. I still wonder what happend to that car.

One commonality Roy,with this thread is timing,if you had made a few earlier visits, the outcome may have been different. As I had indicated on another forum,a 57 Chev Belair was offered to me for 3k last July located in Gold coast hinterland QLD,photos were good,it was hauled out of a shed and was in the open for just over a year.Decided to purchase, and make arrangements for transport,he was going to bring it down etc, some freight companies would not touch it[no brakes,no steering, the front clip was removed for the start of a resto].I paid a deposit in Sept, and planned a quick trip up and back with hire vehicle and tandem in Nov.less than a fortnight before my departure, fires that raged in the area took the Chev.In fact it was only yesterday that I received the balance of my deposit back.If I had acted quickly as if there was no tomorrow,it would be sitting here in the work carpark with a set of plates,my intention was to put it back on the road quickly,as a basic clunker, original faded paint etc............Frank.
