Can anybody tell me where I will find information on the street rod rod rego scheme (limited rego). Before I ring ASRF. We have no SR rego in the territory and I would like to change this by going to Gumenment, We have VCC Vintage veteran n classic but a hotrod doesn't fit there descibtions cause they are modified, go figure!
What are the parameters etc and costs, I'm gettin fed up with $740 every year for 6000K's or less.
We have no ASRF peoples up here to talk to due to only a handful of rods.

A good start would be to contact Con on (03) 9793 6258

The ASRF Vic TAC has a handy Guidelines book ( cost about $35) which you could show some government bodies up there, this may may help things along.

The Historic Rego scheme is based on the FHVA scheme (Federation of Historic Vehicles Australia) that is run in most states by an affiliated body. Essentially, member clubs nominate a delegate who is responsible for noting all trips in a log book. You need to pass rego, then you are eligible. You can travel within a 20km radius of the nomonated "home" of the car without booking a "number" and the club delegate can nominate some fixed dates (say, first Friday of each month) as a regular trip.
Now, this is all for historic vehicles, or restored cars. The ACT section is run by the CACTMC (Council of ACT Motoring Clubs). There are a few modified car clubs that are affiliated with CACTMC (the CHRA, the Canberra Rod and Kustom Klub, to name a couple) and about 2 years ago, an inquiry was set up because there were modified cars in the scheme running historic plates. The enquiry result was that, if the car passed rego and the member club was prepared to run a book, then the car could be legally run as an historic vehicle. At the time, I asked if anyone in the CHRA would be prepared to "run the book" but there were no takers.
Based on the FHVA scheme, you should be able to establish some form of limited rego if your club was prepared to do the leg work. Asking the ASRF is not going to get you anywhere, as these systems are a state responsibility, not a federal responsibility. I suppose if we could get the same sort of momentum going for a limited scheme that we did for the national guidleines, we could do something at a federal level, but don't hold your breath!
Another thing to consider is that if you have any analy retentive public servants running the RTA, you may find that any limited rego scheme which gets off the ground will become compulsory for all rods.
Just a thought.
