Hey all,

Found this site a week or so ago, and thought I'd tell you about my car.

It's a 57 Chevy sedan delivery, one of four that I know of in Australia. I've owned it since 1996, when I bought it as a recent import. It had sat in a wrecking yard since the early 70s in Washington state. It was LHD of course, and had a badly cracked 283 (due to sitting around in the Wasington winters!). When disassembled the car was found to have next to no rust at all! A pleasant surprise givin the car's history. I have since converted it to RHD (work done by Tony Anastasio of the 55-6-7 Club of Vic), sourced a replacement block (original 57 283) and fully rebuilt it, fitted a cast iron Powergilde, and resprayed it in a coat of bright blue "suede." All work was done by myself, apart from the RHD conversion, the new headlining (Chris O'Shea Motor Trimmers), and a lot of help from Norm (Aussie Desert Cooler) on the respray. It is currently on Vic "SR" permit, and it's first real outing was the hot rod nationals three years ago in Richmond, NSW. Registered at 4pm on Easter Thursday, departed at 6am good friday for the journey up the Hume! Didn't miss a beat the whole way!

Of course, I currently reside in Japan, so I don't get to drive it much these days. But I always take her out for a drive when I'm back in town, after scouring the classifieds for a suitable event!

My intentions for the thing are a Turbo 700 transmission swap, and possibly a 350 bottom end for a bit more grunt. As is though, it's a perfect cruiser. Last time I was back home I got 3/4 of the way through fitting a wagon rear seat, kindly sourced by Danny Berridge and with a heap of dimensions (and photos!) taken with help from one of Ron Wicks' project cars so I was able to get the brackets in the correct position before welding them into place. Unfortunately I ran out of time before I could finish this little project. Things always take longer than you expect!

Anyway, even though this seems to be a predominately hot rod site, I thought you might be interested in my ride. Unfortunately I don't have any way of linking pictures at the moment, so if anyone would care to host for me I have a heap on my computer.

Cheers,
Dom.

Shit yeah! Send me the pics, I'll upload them.

Just don't make them too big, I've only got dial up. Resize them to about 500 pixels wide (unless they're already small), then they shouldn't be too large.

Send them to borisandsue@bigpond.com (Anyone know why I get so much spam?? ) and while you're at it check out my website www.the-rumbler.com.

Always loved those Sedan Deliveries, in fact, the very first Street Machine magazine I bought had a '55 SD on it. Too cool.

Uh-Oh... busted. Looks like someone took your car for a spin.

I know, I know, it's got NSW plates and it's not suede. Cool looking cars.

Um, going by front bumper, side chrome, roof, & rear wheel arch I'd say mid 50s Buick (maybe Oldsmobile) certainly a GM product!

Heya Brutal!

Thanks for that offer, I'll try to resize some photos this week, and send them through.

That delivery is very similar to mine. Mine also has the Bel Air side trim & bumper over riders, as well as a factory Spotlight/Mirror, Autronic Eye, Reverse lights, and Factory Air. I met the owner of that one once, I think it was Tony? He lived in Wagga. It was for sale about a year or so ago, I don't know if it sold or not, but it was never readvertised after the first ad as far as I know. The car in the background is a 54-55 buick, not sure because I can't see the front. The wraparound screen gives it away as a 54-56, but I think 56s had different side trim.

And yes, it was me you worked with in Richmond all those years ago, Frank. I'm over here to give the motor industry a bit of a rest, and now I'm an English teacher. A little different, that's for sure. They're crazy for their US cars over here. They even have a domestic version of Cruisin Magazine, packed with American cars, and early model Toyota Crowns! On Sundays, you can always spot a few 60s muscle cars on the streets in the cooler parts of town. There is quite a few events on around town and recently I attended the Yokohama Hot Rod Show, at which there were quite a few famous US cars brought out for the occasion, including the original "Pete & Jake" coupe! Shame that kinda thing doesn't attract these cars in Australia.

Oh, and you may well see the car on the road while I'm away, as I have left it in the hands of a good friend who I trust. He was given instructions to get it on the road for a bit every few months, so you might cross paths at the odd event.
