I reckon go and talk to an engineer now...

A friend of mine got this engineered and registerred as a modified production rather than an ICV.

It has a mid-mounted 5L V8.

He extended the wheelbase 4 and a half feet with a custom built chassis.

If you talk tot he engineer while its starting they are much more likely to not put you in the too hard basket and actually tell you what you need to do to make it as a modified...

Thanks for the help guys.

As it stands i spoke with a few engineers when i first started - before the full chassis idea, when i just wanted to put in airbags. One engineer went over the top and wanted to weigh each corner of the car do brake tests etc just for the airbags - he also took weeks to reply even though i paid him. The second engineer who i also paid to consult just said use common sense and don't go so far as to make it an ICV cause they are just rediculous.

I also had alot of engineers tell me they wouldn't even consider approving airbag set ups in anything and that anyone who did was dodgy.

I got fed up with the engineers and just started building cause i figured things would change as i went along and i didn't want to have to pay $100 of dollars just to talk to the engineer.

Things changed and the project blew up - from just wanting to put in airbags to building as full chassis with new independent front and rear suspensions.

I think it looks like i will just go with the pontiac idea. I have the airbag set up and i'll be able to put that straight in, plus I have the quad cam v8 so when i get tired of the motor in the ponty i could drop that in.

The only reason i went with a full chassis was cause the val was a unibody and the subframes were rusted. Maybe one day when i have more money and time i will build the val as a dedicated show car.

Slant, check your nearest TAFE as I did a 2 week welding course up here at Uni $400 and got my AS2980 structural welding ticket which allows for trailer/chassis work up to 12mm
Welds are tested in a press and cut through the guts to check consistency etc, I actually fink I learnt sumfink..........Don't give up yet
