Hopefully this works: I've posted pics on the HAMB from my quick trip over to NZ for the Beach Hop. Possibly the coolest event I've been to. Well over a 1000 cars and 1000s of people not necessarily into rods learning a little about the car world for free, which can't be bad. If anyone is THINKING of going I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

D'oh shoulda planned the honeymoon for later and to take in the north island!!!! Looks like you had a ball. Question is how much tiki stuff did you bring back?
While we were there terrorizing the south island we missed the nostalgia drags by a day icon_cry.gif
And a cruze night in Dunedin by the same icon_cry.gif everywhere we went was booked solid, we seriuosly contemplated driving to Christchurch real late but sanity prevailed. Don't think strange roads half asleep is a good way to finish 2 weeks of fun! and I wasn't the only one upset to miss these events the wife was equally annoyed.
New Zealand is a land unlike any other, cannot recommend it highly enough.

Peddro, I can't believe that;
1. They let you out of the country
2. They let you back in again....

Over the last couple of years we've had a few NZ rodders over for the Nats and they've stayed on for the 2 Bay. Could've given you some good contacts, never mind, sounds like you had a great time.

One of the best things I've ever seen was at the last run, there we're 2 NZ couples in a rental that lined up to do the poker run. They got up to the gate and one of our members said to them "No, you can't go 'round in that" and turned them away, pointing back up the hill. He followed them up and gave them the keys to his tourer, you've never seen smiles so wide. They took an hour and a half longer on the poker run 'cause they were stopping everywhere for "kodak moments" all including the tourer in various poses.

Brett: I brought back about 6 tikis. 2 for myself. A few greenstone and bone carvings.....oh man, you shoulda seen the Oceanic Arts place in Auckland that I found,. The old guy that ran it musta been an old sailor or somethin'. He'd been everywhere. Had shit from everywhere too: Cook Islands, Hawaii, Tonga, Africa.....GENUINE ORIGINAL VINTAGE tiki stuff!! You woulda flipped!!

Greg: NZ government even made me pay $25 to leave their coutry!

A mate that'd come over for the Picnic put us up in Auckland and where we stayed in Whangamata (pronounced "Funga-mah-tah")........well, he offered!! I guess he didn't think I'd come over so soon!

I just found out the ceramic tiki bottle I got for $5 at Frankston Trash and Treasure is the same as a friend found in an antique shop for $70
