MrCool,
Now I have to ask what is wrong with a shameless plug ??? Now that you mention it I did not point out that I also sell them just that I use them on most things I own. I like to know products are good before I sell them or even stock them.
I have sold them for many things not just cars. Aircraft often sit idle for long periods of time as do boats, fire trucks, tractors, pumps. Looks like I have now made this into a shameless plug ???

You are the only one Ive seen advertise them, I just filled in the blanks.
They certainly are a good product for keeping a battery charged in applications where you dont often use them. Of course you can always use a small solar panel if you dont have power handy.
BTW, dropped into the truckers toy store the other day, they have some interesting stuff there too.

Yes I have tried the Solar panel path as well ( trying to be a Greenie ) They are OK as chargers if you do not have something drawing on the battery such as an alarm system or similar. ( I use one for the mobile phone in Summer as it is about all I find them good for ). They also need a diode to stop feed back on dull days and then flattening the battery.
( Charge then flatten not good ). Truckers Toy Store is an eye opener or What ??? These Truckies spend more on a Truck than I've seen on some Rods. When I was last there they had a Peterbuilt chassis painted in the new Harlyquin ( is that how it is spelt ? ) purple colors. Wild.
OK Another shameless plug now I also stock some of the Truckers Toy Store accessories as their country dealer ( for any one interested ).

You must be using too small a panel. We run our whole house with them! As for the reverse blocking diode, all good regulators have them fitted in them these days so not always required.

MrCool,
When some thing is offered to you (shameless plug) you do not knock it back as I'm sure you are aware Truckers Toy Store has some good gear and I've seen a few of there lights on Rod etc. and they look good.
As for the small panel you are correct as I tried them when they first came on the market years ago and I was not impressed. The bigger panels you refer to are better and I've seen them on motorhomes etc.
You must have some set up if your house is all Solar. I intend to set up my shed / shop / works with Solar at a later date as at the moment my office has it own power ( two 6 volt batteries ) but runs off the mains via a battery tender (another plug).

MrCool,
Impressive web site with a shame less plug of some of your work. You do know what you are talking about when it comes to Batteries. Looks Like I know who I have to be in touch with when I need some solar panels.
