Another quick question about the little roadster we're about to start on. What is the diferences (i.e. stud pattern?), apart from diameter, between 34 and 35 wire wheels, and the pro's and cons for each. We've got a good set of 34 wires and not sure if to use them or go with 35's.

Cheers and beers

JIMBOB,
Stud pattern for all Ford wheels is the same from Mod A to 48, only difference between 34 & 35 is the diameter, the 35's are more desirable, 16" I think. 34's should be 17"

If the pattern is the same as the F100s then it is most likely 5 studs on a 5 Ĺ inch circle. Years ago I used some 60s F100 wheels on an old Inter Scout 4x4. The Scout had that pattern.

Just a word of warning about the 35 wires Jim. I am not sure if you are aware of this or not but they were designed to be used with a 35 brake drum. The drum was a heavy cast item with a ridge around the outside edge for the wheel to sit on. This added support to the center of the wheel. Without it the wheel centers could eventually crack. Other Ford drums donít provide this support. I have read many warnings about this in US magazines over the years. I am not sure if the 34s are the same.

Whatever hubs you use will have to provide the same support.

Cheers for the info guys. We've decided to go with the 34 as we already have them. Will therefore have to find out about the drum support and if it effects 34 rims as I guess this will determine the brakes we run. Want to try and keep it real old skool if possible.

Cheers and beers
