RB30 would be a good straight six for your project plenty of parts, plenty of info, and alot of written off VL crappadoores going around turbo/ non-turbo (popular P plate car you know!). Budget Build Ups did a story on a 730hp RB30 build up in Vol 10 No3. I know thats more power then you will ever need in a '29 but good protential. So it will take just about anything. A few mates have owned VLs and they go like the clappas. I personly don't like them (FALCONS ARE BETTER) but they have a good motor, well that is my 2 cents worth!

Sounds like to Commodore VL motor wins by a landslide! There ARE a few disadvantages tho: You can't feel, nor hear them at idle, They are very smooth on the road, they don't leak oil or chew the juice, and they look simple and uncomplicated. Now I ask you: What sort of engine is that to put in a Hot Rod?

265 hemi low comp starts at 205 hp and goes all the way to 302 hp(factory rated)mine has an alloy head and alloy intake and weighs in at 385lb and puts out 360hp(lp gas fuelled)with the boltons that are avalible today,450hp naturally aspirated is achivable(a guy in melbourne has one in a torana, running webers,in the 10 sec bracket!)inline is fine(go hard,go hemi,or go home!!)

geez it took three pages for someone to mention the legendary 265! or even a 245 would go ok.
I agree with the 265 choice, add throttle bodies and a Motec, alloy head, it would rock!

Only just found this thread and I agree, speaking from experience, Hemi 6's are indestructable within reason, tons of torque, and plenty of horses when built right.

Cheers and beers,
