I have been keeping a track on the con & vic rego discussion and I think Mr X has a valid point. Let me ask this what happens if con can't make it to register a car because ill health or any other reason?
What's to stop him from charging unreasonable fees to carry out an inspection? such as $2 a klm travel plus the inspection plus the rego? after all he has the monolopy on the entire programe, I know he doesn't but what's to stop him? What right of appeal do we have should we not agree with his dission? or we feel unfairly treated, What's to stop him doing favours for the mates like giving rego to cars that in my opion don't qualify and allowing as Mrs.X pointed out no wipers on a particular car and not on his. I realise that if it wasn't for Con persistance and dilligence we wouldn't have an SR plate system at all, but I think it should have been set up on a fairer playing field. Shouldn't the ASRF with it's regional members or the VicRoads with all RWC testing stations in victoria be able to set up a network of inspectors that can carry out the same roll as Con without any bias or predjuce

Now we are getting somewhere. What you have identified are real problems and ones that I'd love to see answered or addressed by the Victorian State DC. Con is by his own admission no spring chicken and there is bound to be occasions, especially in the years to come where he cannot do all the things he does now. By having documented standards and guidelines we introduce consistincy regardless of who is conducting the inspection.

I agree with you that the administration of the scheme is not ideal.

PS At one DC meeting I attended last year, there was details as to the number of inspectors per State. From memory QLD had something like 9, Victoria had 3 and SA had 26! This was all to do with getting professional indeminity insurance. Can't remember the outcome, but I know the ASRF only paid for a optimum number in each State.

This is a classic example of where if the State DC minutes were available online we would have a better informed membership.

The years have been kind to me, it's just the weekends that have done the damage.

thank you dr who for getting to the heart of the problem, the points you have made are quite valid, also its hard enough to slog it out with ,the rta ,roadworthy mechanics, engineers, and others.all for the cause of getting a car redgistered, seems that everybody has a diffrent idea to whats right and whats not,its not as bad as it used to be though,it may be slowly getting better in the future.information should be freely available to anyone thats into rodding, not just to clubs, and those in the know.greg maybe a good idea for a web site ,but im sure you would have allready thought of that one,it would educate everyone ,rodders, engineers and would take out all the rumours, guess work and confusion.sounds like a bit of a fantasy but im sure it could be done.

Hi Dr Who,
As Greg said all good points. I would like to know why Cons deputy does not appear on the scene to hand out plates. I know he exists as I speak to him and spoke to him recently about the National rego scheme.
As ASRF members we need to push for more information and more volunteers to hand out the plates. It should not be left to one man.
