Just been up to Avoca to visit Gordon and Nicky and due to unforseen
problems that were out of their control, the run has had to be called off.
All entry fees are going to be returned.

Nicky and Gordon have had much regrets in having to do this.
Gordon has said that he will still make any rodders welcome that call in to visit on that weekend ( or anyother weekend).

Now off the record, the pair of them make nothing at all out of this
weekend, they give the proceeds to the local hospital. They are a retired
couple on the pension and decided to put a run together because
nothing was happening during that time of year in the local area.
Their run has been going for a couple of years and the local pub, motel
etc, has done well out of the rodders coming to town. As the run grew,
Gordon asked the local tourist committee for help.

That's when his troubles began. Gordon is the ONLY rodder in Avoca, the committee said a jazz band would be better than a rock n roll band, they
wanted to change this and that, charge a large entry fee, it just went
on and on.

By having to call it all off, both of them have felt bad and have been down in the dumps since doing so. This is where we do something for them.

A few of us have already started to rally the troups for a B.B.Q. to be
held on the Sunday- July 4th, lunch time.

Dave, Simon, Mike (and T.J.), and all others in the Bendigo, Ballarat,
Marybourough and Castlemaine area, lets be their to help brighten
them up.
B.Y.O. food, drinks and chairs. We will organise some hot plates.

Thanks in advance, Bryan (with a "Y")

I had posted a similar note which seems to have gone west... maybe the long hard day i had next to the 'still'.

I had put my money where my mouth is and got on board as a sponsor
The local buisness's didnt bother (last yr around $20k in their kicks)
As Bryan (wiff a Y) said Gordon 'n' Nicky are battlers who put this run on on their own..... a big effort .... no clubs involved .. no 15 - 20 helpers just them .. then a comitee of local know it alls decides .. a quid to be made here .. "lets up the costs"... Rock'n'Roll bands are not the go... (at one stage they wanted a Latin Trio)
Gordon has time n time again expressed his concern that this run was not a money makin exercise ... just break even .. bring some $$ into the town .. any profit went to local Nursing Home.

Now as Gordon luvs this site but cant use a puter (checks it out when here) I reckon we should all try to make it on 4th .. give em back a little ... let them know we appreciated their efforts ..... I will say nothin to them ..Lets just ALL get there!!!!

But fill ya tanks..buy ya tucker..load the esky.. all before u get to Avoca give the BASTARDS nuffin!!

Just came in on the email
"Dear Friends and Road Rodders
Due to special circumstances, the Heroes in Rods Rods had to be cancelled as a organised event.
Money to sponsors and entries money will be refunded in the next two weeks.
People who want still come to Avoca for a get-together are welcome but they will have to organise their own food and entertainment.
Gordon & Nicky's shed will be still open for the weekend and the BBQ facilities available at 80 High Street Avoca as a private affair.
No money will be exchanged or raised for charity; this will be a un-organised, friendly gathering.
People who still want to come please send us a message.
Would you mind passing this message to people you have contact with. More information about this cancellation would be published soon.
Kind regards to all from Nicky Laverick. "

Mike,
Good Idea. And I did intend to go this year but once I heard it was cancelled I made other plans. I will e-mail them as they did some good work for a small township and people like that just do not get the recognition they deserve. I to receveied the e-mail as to the cancelation.

Nah, lets bombard the greedy arsholes who stuffed it all up and let them know what they've done, to a couple of people who have busted their guts to do their little bit for their community.

Hell, lets email others in the community and let them know what they've lost as a result of political bullying driven by some egotistical control feaks within the same community.

Maybe starting with the mayors office!

O.K. it's now only one week away from the B.B.Q. so who is
going to be there.
Can you post a list of numbers please so that we can organise hot plates.

BYO chairs, food and grog.
There is about 4or 5 of us from the Sebastopol Rod & Custom Club
going and I will check up with the Road Rodders to see who is going.

Should be a good day.

heroes BBQ ......... was fairly cold .. about 60 ppl showed up .. and about 20 cars .. laid back affair ... with run out to some of the wineries .

Ol time rodder Pat Keally made and presented Gordon n Nicky with a framed picture and a trophy in recognition of their efforts.

The Run will go ahead next year with the help of Gear Grinders .

Only break down for the day was Bryan wiff a Y .... thermostat stuck closed .. overheated .. wouldnt start .. straight gas .

When he arrived ..I thort Kelly Boyle was towing him .. but overheard that Bryan was pushing Kelly ... good rope eh !!

All in all a good day !

I'm told it was either you or me taught him that trick.

Ahaaa!!! Knowing ole Flash I'd guess since your young bloke knew his name, that he probably figured he'd actually met him somewhere, AND invited him to visit.

Most times a good thing, sometimes kinda scary.
