Is that one of your rides jimbob

Ah, the DR1.
Reminds me of that old joke about the WWII Dutch fighter pilot.
“Dem Fokkers were Messerchsmitts”!!!!

Looks like she’s fitted with a late radial.
The originals had a 9 cylinder Le Rhone rotary.
The crank was fixed to the bulkhead and the cylinders use to whir around with the prop.
Imagine the gyroscopic forces this would have created in such a light little machine.
Most WW1 aircraft used rotary engines.

You know your stuff This is a replica that was built in the '80's. It actually flies but not that well I'm told. And yes, the originals would hve been quite a hand full with such a relatively large amount of spinning metal up front.

Cheers and beers

I heard a story about an Airline Pilot who was in the same airspace as a Fokker Friendship, Air Traffic control told him about it, and to look out for it, Once he saw it, he said to the ATC over the radio, "I've got that Fokker in my sights!!....... I've always wanted to say that!"
