Where is the best place to locate the door latches?

Above is a photo of my door red arrow is the location of the standard latch
I intend to use Ford Laser latches or similar as they sit inside the door & I'm thinking the best place to locate them is in the middle as this would stop the doors from bending out at the bottom.
Your Thoughts please on the best location!

Cheers!

p.s Sorry about quality of photo as I don't have a digi camera so I have to use my video camera

OK....the original position is probably where the most meat is...but you have to consider where the outside handles will be. You will find not a lot of room to have the new latches in the old location with the standard handles...one or the other has to be moved. That is why most rodders move the latch down...I didn't, but had to do a lot of work to get it all happening in a confined area.

Cheers Pep, I won't be using outside handles as I don't have 'em and it's a open car so I'm using internal handles only. Also I will blister the spot where the latch is located if the latches aren't able to operate properly.

Then the original location would be my way.....

Cheers Pep.

Door handles are off a Daihatsu F10 jeep type thingy

As you can see in this pic the recess I made for the hinge as it has to sit flush with the doorjamb

Here you can see the bracing for the hinge area & the recess for hinge!

.....& finally where it will be welded.

Everything is tack welded at the moment but eventually it will be fully welded when I have everything how I want it

So what do you think?
