Hi all

Not really the right place but I am trying to get an early 39 ford bango steering wheel that I can cut down. I have a 30 ford coupe ACME 30 and want to swap out the sigma colum and wheel for an early bango but having dificulty locating one in WA.

Will be over in Gelong at easter so can pick up - if anyone happens to come accross one

Hi Jeff,
Go to your local Mazda wrecker and have a look at some of their early sports wheels.
I've got one on my roadster and it sure looks the part and doesn't need to be cut down. I'm using a Mazda column. check out the bottom of for a close up

323 isn't it?
Mick Ogle has one in "The Plodge" & it sure looks the deal.
another one often overlooked & there's heaps of them, is the little pommie cars like Austins.

Was a heap at the big York auction a few years back but I got there 5 minutes late...Murphy's Law huh.

Got one line dup in a little pommie car next door, Humber or something.
I'll get some pics & post it

Hi guys

Thanks for the heads up on the mazda steering wheels but ........... I really like the early ford wheels and had my heart set on one of them just fickle I guess.

heya jeff, i'll try & get a pic of the pommie one, column & steering wheel look like a 39 only slightly shrunk. also has indicator stalk & column shift, but either or both can be removed.

flat strap at present but will try to get over there asap.

save you chopping one down maybe.
the mazda one Mick ogle used on Plodge is a dead ringer for a 39 except shrunk & had a neat horn button of something trick, it could be bossed up to any column with minimal machining...but if you want a real oldun, settle for nothing less lest you be unhappy

I'm heading south in a months time, I'll keep an eye out & contact some local scroungers, we might get lucky. Found a heap of Model A stuff so who knows eh?

fingers crossed...just remind me in a month or so time!

Ripper thanks for that - although I saw plodge at the state title show I only really looked at the outside - didn't notice the steering wheel then but at that time the itch for change hadn't hit either!

Used to drive a morris minor but can't remember what the wheel used to look like. The mazdas that I have seen have had straight spokes - not sure it there are any other types - I like the way that the ford spokes spread out towards the centre hub and that was what reaaly drew me to them.

Would be happy to use something similar just a matter of finding it. Thanks for your help

the Thanks
